Martha Graham Dance Company

On Saturday, I saw the Martha Graham Dance Company perform at City Center. It was such an amazing experience. They performed Cave Of The Heart, a dance about Medea and Jason, Inner Resources, a new work by Marie Chouinard, Rust, and Chronicle. Each piece conveyed so much feeling and told a story. My personal favorite was Rust, which told a story about torture and prisoners. Each dancer really made the story seem real, and the music added even more.

Chronicle

Hamilton

Hamilton is a musical about Alexander Hamilton; a founding father of the United States. He wrote the Federalist Papers with John Jay and ---, married Elizabeth Schuyler and had 8 children before being shot by his enemy Aaron Burr. The musical tells his life story with a not so normal Broadway soundtrack. I found a video of some scenes and found the dances to be interesting. The dances have lots of isolations and quick movements.

Also, some songs I would suggest to listen to would be:
  • The Schuyler Sisters
  • Aaron Burr, Sir
  • Dear Theodosia
  • Guns and Ships
  • You'll Be Back
  • Cabinet Battle #1
  • What'd I Miss

Pointe!

I recently got en pointe!! This is a very big accomplishment to me, because ever since I started dance, I wanted to go en pointe. I have been en pointe for about a month and class is fun, but harder. My fitting was really long, though and I probably tried on 10 pairs of shoes. Even though I am now en pointe, I know I still need to work hard to be safe and dance.

Paul Taylor Dance Company

On the 26th I am going to see the Paul Taylor Dane Company. I just found out about this company, so I looked them up, and they are amazing dancers. I am really excited to see this company because I find modern dance really intresting and beautful. Aside from the company dancing really well, the venue is amazing too. The Lincon Center is such a nice space, where I would like to perform at one day.

Meme Child

First off, If you have no idea what I'm talking about you clearly have not beeen absorbed into bands and the internet. You are not a meme child. I am dissapointed in you.

So I was scrolling through Tumblr and listining to MCR when I founnd the following pepe. Naturally, I had to show the world. I also found a variety of doge/Dan Howell comparison. People should really get award for creating memes and making them better (worse really, but its the internet, the weirder the memes get, the better). There are so many varieties of pepe and *tears  up* its beautiful. All the people wasteing their social livees for Tumblr. How inspirational.

On The Town with Misty Copeland

A while ago I saw On The Town with my mom. It was a great musical with lots of singing and dancing. It takes place in the 1940's, with sailors as the main character. These sailors go on an adventure in New York City to find Ivy Smith the 'Miss Turnstiles' who stole one of the sailors hearts. Seeing Misty Copeland as Ivy was amazing. There were so many funny/pretty parts with her.

My Dance History

I have done ballet since I was 3 years old. The ultimate goal of mine was to become a professional ballerina. At the age of 7 I went to American Ballet Theatre (ABT) but I quit at the age of 10. The reason I quit was because I would have three classes a week. Odd reason considering I dance 5 out of 7 days a week now. I don't go to a company ballet school, but I still love it. I always wanted to do ballet because I didn't like many other forms of dance. I'm trying to expand my horizons now with more types of dance.
